After several months of intense development and design, Looxii moves from Alpha to Beta today. As our new home page states, Looxii offers a simple method for users to Sort, Track, and Analyze social media data. The Looxii platform is a feed based system that allows individuals and businesses of all sizes to start monitoring social media quickly and easily. The search based system offers three views of a user’s data: the overview dashboard, the feed, and the graphs view.

The Looxii Dashboard

The dashboard gives users a quick look at the state of each of their search terms. At a glance each search module shows recent activity, including total mentions, average mentions, and the highest/lowest activity days. Alternate views show trending terms and a breakdown of sources for the social media mentions around each search. The Looxii dashboard also offers RSS feeds for each of your social media searches.

The Looxii Feed

The feed view allows users to seamlessly read and organize each social media mention. With the ability to mark sentiment, add tags, and create groups of tags, users are able to arrange their social media data in a way that is meaningful to them and their business. An important aspect of this organization process is the creation of tag groups. Many users have the need to see their data organized by specific groupings. One example of this would be a local museum marketing department creating a group of people with tags of visitor, promoter, and employee. Alternatively, a large car company such as Ford could create categories of dealer, consumer, promoter, and other. These tags can be used in conjunction with other groupings such as sentiment, and the different types can be filtered in the feed view, giving a user the ability to see positive mentions by consumers, for instance. Users can also filter the feed by date, author, and trending terms.

Looxii Graphs

On the graphs page users can compare searches, tags, data sources, and sentiment. Similar to the feed interface, users can filter the data that is graphed and compare their custom tags over time and in total. Using the example above the museum marketing department could see that 60% of their mentions come from promoters, 33% from visitors, and 7% from employees. They can also immediately see that 80% of their social media mentions are positive, while 12% are neutral, and 8% are negative. This gives the user the ability to quickly see where to focus their efforts, and a benchmark to compare these efforts against in the future.

Looxii extended features

Looxii also offers email alerts and soon will be offering exportable reports and auto tagging features. Sign-up now for beta access at www.looxii.com. New slots will be opening daily.

Link to looxii-beta press release pdf

Looxii is taking their app from Alpha to Beta at the third annual all-day pitch event for startups, Startup Riot 2010. After several months of development and design, Looxii is releasing a private beta version of their social media analytics platform.

“It took a ton of work getting to beta, we’re really excited about the new platform and the impact it will have on the field of social media analytics.” – Daniel Upton, Looxii CEO

Looxii Beta is the first social media analytics platform built with simplicity in mind. With many existing platforms the greatest obstacle between data and meaning is the interface. Startup Riot founder and organizer Sanjay Parekh says “the implementation is fantastic…the guys from Looxii have really nailed a drop dead simple interface that gives you what you want without jumping through a lot of hoops.”

With Looxii simplicity means no expensive training sessions, no time-consuming webinars, no useless features and no excessive prompts or pop-ups, just an easier way to interact with, and get use out of, torrents of social media data. Looxii Beta saves time and delivers information that helps businesses create and modify successful social media campaigns.

Currently in private beta, Looxii plans to release its platform to the public soon with a series of priced analytics offerings for businesses of all sizes. More information is available at http://blog.looxii.com. You can also get the latest Looxii updates by following @Looxii on Twitter.

About Looxii

A member of the inaugural class of Shotput Ventures companies, Looxii was founded in the Spring of 2009 by two graduates of Georgia Tech’s MS in Digital Media program – Daniel Upton and Adam Rice. Adam and Daniel have collaborated on several successful projects – academic, independent, and, now, entrepreneurial – over the past two years. Together they create common sense social media apps using an interdisciplinary approach that embraces rapid, iterative design and development techniques. Find out more at www.looxii.com/about.

About Startup Riot

Startup Riot is an all-day pitch event for startups from all industries, stage of maturity and geographic location. The event connects entrepreneurs with potential investors and buyers. Each year, up to 50 companies are selected through a simple, no-cost application process. Each of the selected companies delivers a three-minute presentation on their value proposition to an audience of potential investors and customers over the eight-hour event.

It’s been quite a while since we’ve posted anything as we’ve been crazy busy. That’s a good reason right? Here is what’s been going on with Looxii:

Working on Looxii Beta

We recently closed a round of funding, which is probably the biggest news. This funding makes it possible for us to continue to completely devote ourselves to rolling out the beta app. The app itself is going to feature many more data sources and give businesses – and individuals – an extremely simple means of interacting with, and making sense of, the massive amount of information floating around on the social web. Look for that in January.

Interview with Gravity Free Radio

Back in October we had the privilege to sit down with Stephanie Frost of Gravity Free Radio for an interview about our experience with Shotput Ventures. Sanjay Parekh was also on hand to talk about SPV from the investors’ perspective. Definitely worth a listen if you’d like to learn more about SPV, Looxii or Atlanta startups.

Conferences!

It’s been really exciting getting out in the wild and meeting more people in the ATL and Southeast business scenes. Since August we’ve attended several conferences, including PR Camp Atlanta and Internet Summit ‘09, presented at the Lift B2B Summit and demoed at Future Media Georgia. The responses to our alpha app at each event have been really encouraging and we’ve been able to glean some valuable insights that are going to help us moving forward.

Quick Redesign

Actually, there’s no such thing as a quick redesign. We decided to give our landing page and blog a simpler look without sacrificing too much beta development time. Visually, we got a little gradient happy, but the message about what the alpha app actually does is much clearer.

Earlier this Summer, and largely inspired by this post from Fred Wilson, we started work on a twitter app to pull links from twitter feeds. We also wanted to show other users who had tweeted the same link. The idea was to provide an interface to the (possible) social links that exist around urls shared on twitter. Ultimately, we built Twinqs for users to get all of the links from their feed as well as suggested content and new people to follow (if they choose).

Users can login with their twitter account and start perusing links from all over the place. By clicking the Twinqs button, users can see who else has tweeted the same link. They can then see that person’s other posted links and start following them if they like what they see.

We thought it was too fun of an idea to pass up. And after devoting several weeks to designing Looxii, we thought we’d push the aesthetic in a very different direction. New content, new people, an octopus… what’s not to like? Go give it a try and let us know what you think. You can also follow Twinqs on twitter to stay up on the latest features.

As you may know, Looxii is part of the inaugural class of Shotput Ventures. This past Monday was the program’s demo day and all eight Shotput companies presented to an audience of 120+ investors, entrepreneurs, and members of the press. The experience within the accelerator was nothing short of amazing. While Daniel and I have a good deal of experience rapidly producing apps and presenting to decent-sized audiences, we’ve never done these things within the context of a business.

We received a good amount of feedback, both positive and negative, and came away with tons of useful stuff that we’re still sorting through. It really felt like the closing of a chapter, but that feeling was short-lived. We realize that we’re only three months into our business and now it’s all about the business. In the coming months we plan to hit several milestones that are going to make our social web dashboard a stronger analytical and communicative platform.

Shotput leaves us with a wealth of quickly accrued experience and a good deal of confidence. If we can do this much in a few months, we can only make our business better. We also owe a huge, HUGE thanks to the Shotput Team, each member gave us invaluable advice regarding our direction and helped us build a strong foundation for Looxii. These guys are not only doing great things for these young businesses, but the Atlanta community as a whole.

Check out impressions of Shotput’s Demo Day, and each of the eight companies, from Techdrawl, David Cummings, Sanjay Parekh, and Lance Weatherby.

It’s been a great week since launching the alpha dashboard last Monday. Despite the massive hacking of Twitter, our primary data source, we attracted close to 300 visitors with an average hang time of two minutes. Not too shabby!

The Twitter outage gave us some panic, but it also helped us realize the benefits of having an extensible framework. While Twitter content is a major part of our app, we have other very useful APIs plugged in and we’re adding more data sources in the coming weeks.

We’re most encouraged by your feedback. Lots of new users have been quick to share their opinions and most of them have been positive. We’re only two months on the job and we’re going to make things better as we go. Knowing how your user feels just makes the job that much easier (and rewarding). Thanks for a very exciting week peeps!
– Adam
